Tokyo Olympics: Neeraj Chopra qualifies for javelin throw final in first attempt

India’s medal contender Neeraj Chopra on Wednesday qualified for the final of the javelin throw at the Olympic Games with an impressive first effort of 86.65m here. Participating in her first Olympics, Chopra took only a few seconds to reach Saturday’s final round as she passed the qualifying mark of 83.50m during Group A qualification. Finland’s Lassi Atteltalo also qualified straight with an effort of 84.50m. The 23-year-old Indian left the javelin field after his first throw and easily cemented his place in the final. Shivpal Singh, the other Indian in the fray, will present his challenge in Group B later in the day.
