BHUBANESWAR: A team of Kalahandi district administration visited Anchalika Mahavidyalaya Mahling on Wednesday to find out whether the institute has violated the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
The college is co-founded by Gobinda Sahu, who has been arrested for the murder of Mamta Meher, principal of Sunshine Public School, founded by Sahu. Both the institutes are located on the same campus.
Deputy Collector (Dharamgarh) Pawar Sachin Prakash, who headed the probe team, said, “The visit was part of an administrative inquiry to find out whether the NCPCR guidelines were followed in the institute. Investigation is on.” ”
Sources said the team visited two women’s hostels, checked various documents and held talks with the hostel authorities. He also spoke to the parents of some students.
After the teacher’s murder, a section of the media had reported on the alleged sexual abuse of some girl students at the institute.
Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the NCPCR and the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) sought an action taken report (ATR) from the government.
The NCPCR had written to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Patnaik and Director General of Police Abhay, demanding a fair investigation in the murder case in a time bound manner.
Observing that there is a perception that both the institutions did not follow the guidelines of child protection, OSPCR had asked the Kalahandi Collector and the SP to submit the ATR.
Meher’s October 8 killing has sparked a political controversy with opposition parties demanding the resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra on October 20 for alleged links with Sahu. There have been protests across the state. Issue.
Congress leader and former Union minister Bhakta Charan Das on Wednesday hit out at the Chief Minister’s Office, saying some senior officials were protecting Mishra.
