DGCA Placed 63 Passengers on ‘No Fly List’ in 2022, Most for Not Wearing Mask

A total of 63 passengers have been placed on the “No Fly List” in the past year due to disruptive behavior. These include two instances of urination that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is aware of. The duration of the passenger ban has been decided on the advice of the airlines. Also, according to government data, there have been more incidents of unruly behavior on flights in the last one year.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation, VK Singh said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Monday: “In the last one year, a total of 63 passengers have been placed on the “no fly list” for such period as is recommended by the government. Airline The internal committee of the IAF, constituted as per Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), Section 3 – Air Transport, Series M, and Part VI, titled “Handling of unruly/disruptive passengers”.

In response to another query, the ministry informed that 143 passengers have been placed on the ‘No Fly List’ since 2017 as per the recommendations of the concerned internal committee constituted by the airline.

As per the provision mentioned in the CAR, a ‘No Fly List’ is prepared by the DGCA which includes specific information related to the passenger involved, contact details of identity documents, date of incident, sector, flight number, duration of ban etc.

The ministry’s response said most of the passengers placed on the “no fly list” were for violations related to not wearing masks or not following crew members’ instructions.

The reply stated that action was taken for non-adherence to the regulations in force by the DGCA in respect of specific incidents relating to urination.

Air India has been fined Rs 30,00,000 for an incident on AI-102 flight from New York to New Delhi on November 26, 2022. Air India’s director of flight services has been fined Rs 3,00,000 and pilot-in-command’s license has been suspended for three months.

In response, it was said that the DGCA has imposed a financial penalty of Rs 10,00,000 on Air India for the incident that took place on flight AI-142 from Paris to New Delhi on December 6, 2022.
