The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested two officials of the North Frontier Railway zone along with a contractor of a private company in an alleged bribery case of around Rs 2 crore.

The CBI arrested Senior Section Engineer (SSE) Santosh Kumar and his Senior Deputy Chief Engineer (DCE) Rampal along with contractor Sajjan Chowdhary, who owns Tribeni Construction, in the case.

Police said one of the accused, Kumar, had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs eight lakh from the construction company. CBI laid a trap and the said SSE, Silchar (Assam) was fined Rs. Eight lakh rupees from an employee of a private company.

Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused and others at about 19 places including Assam, Imphal, Delhi, Bihar and Haryana, which led to the recovery of Rs. 1.02 Crore (Approx).

The accused were produced before the court, which remanded the DCE and the contractor to 5 days police custody, while the SSE was sentenced to 3 days transit remand.
