A week after violent incidents were reported in several parts of the country, the police force in Uttar Pradesh is on alert for Friday prayers. Earlier on June 10, after Friday prayers, there were violent demonstrations in Prayagraj, Saharanpur and some other districts, in which 13 policemen were injured. UP Police has so far arrested 357 miscreants involved in stone pelting and violence.

Along with this, instructions have been given to equip them with weapons and safety equipment. A flag march will be taken out in the Atala area late on Thursday evening. Drone cameras will also be monitored.

Meanwhile, religious leaders and imams of mosques have come forward and appealed to the people to maintain peace. Talking to News18, Mutawalli of Tila Wali Masjid in Lucknow said, “Keeping in view the current situation, I would like to appeal to the people to maintain peace at all costs. Those coming to offer Namaz should not indulge in sloganeering of any kind or attend any gathering. They should offer Namaz and return to their respective homes.

At the same time, UP’s ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said, ‘Communication has been established with the Imams and religious leaders of the mosques for tomorrow’s prayers and we are getting everyone’s cooperation. A proposal was also made in Bareilly, the date of which has been postponed. For the time being, we have held meetings with all religious leaders and peace loving people. This time such arrangements have been made that there should be no problem. An appeal has also been issued on behalf of all the religious leaders in this regard. Along with fairness and transparency, action is being taken against the miscreants who have caused unrest in the past.
