Telegram’s new update adds group video calls, screen sharing with animated emoji and more

With the new update, Telegram is getting many new features like group video calls, share your screen and animated emoji. The company is also releasing a new menu button for bots along with ‘stylist’ message animations to improve the user experience. Users need to ensure that they are using the latest version of the app to enjoy the latest features. Some updates are also being rolled out to the Telegram desktop and tablet clients. Starting with the much-awaited group video call, the new update now lets users convert group audio calls into group video calls with up to 30 people. For reference, WhatsApp only allows up to eight people in a group call. Telegram says that this limit will soon increase as voice chat streams games, live events, and more. Telegram group video calls give users several options like pin/unpin box and mute video or audio. Perhaps the most notable feature is Screen Sharing which lets users share stats or play Pac-Man together while on a call. The company notes that when casting your screen, Telegram Beta “may capture any sensitive information that is displayed on your screen from your device.”

On desktop, users have the ability to selectively share the screen. This essentially means that users can broadcast content from their phones with select individuals instead of broadcasting with all participants in a group video call. To share your screen, tap More (represented by three dots) and select an option. Specifically, Telegram is improving noise suppression in voice chat to keep everyone’s audio “clear and crisp,” even when users are eating something crisp. Users have the option to turn off the noise suppression feature – “for those times when it makes sense to nibble.” In addition to group video calls and better noise suppression, the latest update adds animated backgrounds and messaging animations. The animated background, as the name suggests, brings in multi-color gradient wallpaper to enhance the visual appeal of the chat. User can find animated background in setting. Android users can go to Chat Settings > Change Chat Background, while iOS users will have to select Appearance > Chat Background. User can create his own animated background by selecting multiple colors and patterns. Once created, it can be shared with contacts.

Telegram is making it easier to communicate with bots by adding a special menu button that lets users browse and send commands. You can change the placeholders in the input fields to give a better idea of what kind of message the bot is expecting. Telegram is providing tools to third-party developers to create new custom stickers. Users can also create stickers with the @stickers bot. There are a lot of animated emoji now available, as Telegram notes, the new update is all about “Motion”.
