state Bank of India (SBI) offers free accidental cover up to Rs 2 lakh to all Jan Dhan account Holders using RuPay Debit Card. All debit cards come with some complimentary services. Debit card users are eligible for various benefits including accidental death insurance, purchase protection cover and more. Jan Dhan account holders who use RuPay card are all eligible for certain benefits.
Launched in 2014, Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana ensures access to financial services, banking savings and deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, pension to the economically marginalized people in an affordable manner. Anyone can open a Jan Dhan account online by providing Know Your Customer (KYC) documents. There is an option to transfer the basic savings account to Jan Dhan Yojana account.
Those who have Jan Dhan account get RuPay PMJDY card from the bank. The sum insured for RuPay PMJDY cards issued on Jan Dhan accounts opened up to August 28, 2018 will be Rs 1 lakh. Accidental cover benefit of up to Rs 2 lakh will be available on RuPay cards issued after August 28, 2018.
Eligibility: Jan Dhan account holders must have made a successful financial or non-financial transaction on any channel both intra and inter bank within 90 days from the date of accident using RuPay Debit Card.
Personal accident policy will cover even if the incident takes place outside India. The claim will be paid in Indian Rupees as per Sum Assured on submission of required documents.
nominated person: The beneficiary can be enrolled in the account of the cardholder or legal heir as per the order of the competent court. In case of multiple beneficiaries, the claim is settled in the name of the heir as per the legal heir certificate submitted.
Documents need to be submitted for claiming benefits: For accidental death claims, one needs to submit these below mentioned documents
1) Claim form duly filled and signed
2) Original or attested copy of death certificate.
3) Original or attested copy of FIR or Police report giving details of accident.
4) Original or attested copy of post mortem report along with chemical analysis/ FSL report wherever applicable.
5) Aadhar copies of the cardholder and the nominee.
6) Declaration duly signed by the authorized signatory and bank stamp on behalf of the card issuing banks specifying that a) the cardholder holds a RuPay card on the RuPay issued IIN and mentioning the 16 digit card number b) 90 days Compliance of transaction criteria (to be supported with transaction log/account statement from Bank’s system), c) Name of the nominee and his/her banking details (including passbook copy), d) Brief description of the accident as per FIR translated in English or Hindi, e) Contact details with name and email id of the bank officer.
Claims will be settled within ten working days from the date of receipt of documents. The benefits will be provided till March 31, 2022. New India Assurance Company Limited will continue to be the insurance partner with NPCI for RuPay PMJDY cards.
