What Bill Gates had to say about Steve Jobs and the iTunes launch – Times of India

As the two leading CEOs of the world’s biggest tech companies, their rivalry has been infamous. Apple co-founder Steve in the 80s and 90s Jobs and Microsoft co-founder bill gates Didn’t really see eye to eye on many things. Still, there was praise, too, about which Gates has spoken much since Jobs’s death in 2011. Now, an old email has been traced back to what Gates wrote to Microsoft employees after Apple launched its iTunes service in 2003.
The email is published by the @TechEmails Twitter account. This account is known to trace emails sent by big tech companies. In this email, Gates said how Jobs had the power to “get people who get the user interface right” by selling products and services as “wonderful things.” This email was sent by Gates to his employees on 30 April 2003.
Gates’ email suggests that Microsoft was also planning to launch its own online music service. However, Apple overtook them by launching Itunes store.
The email, written by Gates, contained praise for Jobs. “Steve Jobs’ ability to focus on a few things, get people who get the user interface right and market things as revolutionary is amazing things,” he wrote. He also said that the way Jobs managed to start iTunes Was a bit “weird to him”. “This time somehow they’ve used their talents to get a better licensing deal for music than anyone else. That’s very strange to me. Music companies own operations offer a service that’s really Not user-friendly and is constantly reviewed,” Gates told Microsoft employees.
Microsoft wanted its own music subscription service because Gates told its employees that “even though Jobs has us flat out again” they needed to quickly match up and bring something better than Apple. Although the idea never materialized, Apple changed the way music was consumed by a lot of people.
