Punjab Election 2022: CM Channi will talk to his brother Manohar Singh on denial of party ticket

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday said he would talk to his brother Manohar Singh if he was denied a Congress ticket. Channi made the remarks after his brother said that he would contest as an independent from the Bassi Pathana assembly seat against the sitting Congress MLA.

Channi also hinted that he may try to persuade his brother not to jump in the fray against the sitting MLA from the constituency Gurpreet Singh GP. Channi’s brother Manohar Singh, eyeing a Congress ticket from Bassi Pathana assembly seat, had said on Sunday that he would contest as an independent after the ruling party fielded its sitting MLA Gurpreet Singh GP. “He asked for the ticket but the party refused. The GP (sitting MLA) is also our brother. Will make him sit and talk and the problem will be resolved,” Channi told reporters here.

The Congress party in its first list of 86 candidates on Saturday fielded party MLA Gurpreet Singh GP from Bassi Pathana (SC) seat. Manohar Singh had termed the Congress’ decision to give ticket to Gurpreet Singh GP an “injustice” to the people of the constituency and alleged that the sitting MLA was “incompetent and ineffective”. Singh had said that he decided to contest as an independent after meeting several councillors, village sarpanch and panch, who had asked him to contest.

Singh, MBBS and MD, had resigned as a senior medical officer from Kharar Civil Hospital in August last year. When asked about his brother contesting as an independent, Channi said, “As far as my brother is concerned, we live in a joint family. My brother became a doctor after doing MD. He was working as a government doctor. And Bassi was posted as SMO in Pathana.” He was transferred by the area’s MLA GP. He (Manohar) also told the MLA that he was the minister’s brother (Channi at that time in the Amarinder Singh-led cabinet). On this (after he was transferred by the MLA) my brother decided to quit his job and later the people of the area told him that he should contest the elections.

When asked why the MLA got his brother transferred, Channi replied, “Maybe he thought at that time that he might contest the election.” Replying to another question, Channi said that the displeasure of senior Punjab Congress leader and former MP Mohinder Singh Kayapi for not being given ticket from Adampur assembly seat is justified and the party will definitely think about it.

“He is our tall leader, he has been the president of our state unit,” Channi said. Kapi on Sunday expressed displeasure over not getting ticket from Adampur assembly seat, saying that his family is targeted by the party in every election.

Earlier in the day, AAP leader Raghav Chadha had alleged that by denying tickets to Punjab Chief Minister Channi’s brother and another relative, the Congress had proved that it had “only used them as a tool” to get Scheduled Castes. Chief Minister to use in”. Caste votes. Chadha alleged that apart from Channi’s brother, Mohinder Singh Kapi, the CM’s relative, who wanted a ticket from Jalandhar’s Adampur seat, was also denied it, alleging that Kapi was not given the ticket as he was Channi’s. were relatives.

Chadha, however, had said that the ruling party has given tickets to Fatehgarh Sahib MP Amar Singh and sons of minister Brahm Mohindra. Chadha further alleged that the Congress had in the past appointed Sushilkumar Shinde as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to woo the votes of a particular community and later Shinde was removed after the elections.
