No personal attack on PM Modi in upcoming assembly polls, Gujarat Congress plans

New DelhiSources said the central Congress leadership has asked its Gujarat unit to refrain from making personal attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raise people’s issues and target BJP’s policies ahead of the assembly elections due later this year. . , The Congress task force on Monday, after wasting its brains for nearly five hours, called the leaders of Gujarat and asked them to prepare unitedly for the assembly elections, which have been in power in the state for the last 27 years.

As part of the strategy, the party will highlight the failure of the state government especially during Covid and post-Covid. Notably, the Congress has seen some high-profile exits in the recent past, apart from a setback in the local body elections. Hardik Patel, who led the Patidar movement, has also changed his loyalties and joined the BJP.

Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken, former finance minister P. Chidambaram and Congress election strategist Sunil Kanungolu were present in the task force meeting.

In the last assembly elections, the party had won 77 seats, but since then several MLAs have switched sides.
In the 1985 assembly elections, the Gujarat Congress won a record-breaking 149 seats with a vote share of 55.55 percent, while the BJP could get only 11 seats with a vote share of 14.96 percent.

In the 2012 elections, the vote share of the Congress declined to 38.93 per cent, while that of the BJP fell to 47.85 per cent.
Aam Aadmi Party’s threat to the Congress also came into the limelight when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday talked about his government in Delhi and governance in Gujarat.

Referring to the two-day visit of a 17-member BJP delegation to Delhi to check the reality of schools and mohalla clinics, Kejriwal said, even after two days of visit, he did not find any shortage. This shows the performance of the AAP government in Delhi.”

Kejriwal further said, “The AAP government always welcomes constructive suggestions and criticism if it is good for the people at large. If any omission is brought to our notice, we take action at the earliest.
