Israel’s High Court convened on Sunday morning to discuss the petitions demanding that yeshiva students be drafted into the military and that institutions whose students are not drafted be denied their budgets.
The court was composed of nine judges, among whom was interim High Court Chief Justice Uzi Fogelman.
Netanyahu promotes 2022 conscription bill
In May, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he would promote a conscription bill passed in first reading on January 31, 22, during the Lapid-Bennet government.
The move was approved by Israel’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation, in effect ignoring the attorney general’s opinion that such a proposal was irrelevant.
