No new engineering colleges for two more years, with exception AICTE rules

This All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has extended its moratorium for setting up of new engineering institutes by two years, with few exceptions. The proposal of the State Government to start new polytechnics in traditional, emerging, multidisciplinary and vocational sectors including PPP mode will not be considered under the moratorium.

Any industry registered as Trust, Society, Company established under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 having a minimum annual turnover of Rs.5000 crores in the last 3 years will be exempted. Charitable organizations existing for more than 25 years and running other educational institutions with minimum enrollment of 10,000 students and NIRF (if applicable) ranking within 100 in the previous year will also be included.

“It is pertinent to mention that in the last academic year the Council took a step forward to reduce the subject barrier by covering a total of 14 subjects studied in various School Education Boards across the country so that they are required to pursue technical education courses. In addition, the Council also announced that in order to facilitate the smooth conduct of these courses, various translated books in Indian languages ​​are being made available to the institutes. The Council has shifted its entire approval process including submission of documents, scrutiny and subsequent online meetings to online mode. AICTE said that this year the online approval portal has been made more robust and user-friendly.
