Michael Vaughan urges struggling England batsman to learn from Sachin Tendulkar’s famous double century in Sydney Test

There is no end to the poor form of England opener Jacques Crowley. In the first innings of the Edgbaston Test against India, Crowley was dismissed for just nine by Jasprit Bumrah. This was Crowley’s 23rd single-digit score after playing 45 innings in Test cricket. Talking about Crowley’s poor form, former England captain Michael Vaughan urged him to learn from Sachin Tendulkar’s tactics.

“Sachin Tendulkar had a tough tour of Australia in 2004, when the ball was going around and he was getting out while playing a drive. what did he do? He canceled the drive and scored 241 in Sydney. Crowley hasn’t tried this yet,” Vaughan wrote for the Telegraph.

“He didn’t try to drive away for two hours while the ball is new. Ultimately, he hasn’t attacked the opposition in any other way. If you keep doing this you will know again and again because bowlers are not stupid.

Crowley’s highest Test score of 267 came against Pakistan in 2020. Since then, his average has been a poor 11 and during this phase, he has not been able to score a single half-century.

Vaughan feels that such a poor average in international cricket cannot guarantee him a place in the team.

Vaughan believes that the problems begin when someone starts supporting Crowley too much.
