Life-saving fifty and 2 wickets: Here’s how Harshal Patel ensured India’s win in warm-up T20 game – WATCH

While most of us were busy watching the heroics of India’s Test team in Birmingham, the Men in Blue pulled off a resounding T20I win in Northampton on Sunday. The Dinesh Karthik-led Indian team lock horns in a warm-up T20 game with Northamptonshire as the visitors prepare for a bilateral series, consisting of 3 T20Is and as many ODIs, after the conclusion of the rescheduled Test. Harshal Patel scored a half-century and then took a few wickets India beat county team by 10 runs.

The Indian top-order collapsed as the likes of Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav broke down. While skipper Karthik scored 34 off 26 balls, Harshal made 54 off just 36 balls before losing his wicket to Brandon Glover. The subsequent innings hit 5 fours and 3 sixes. He reduced the Indians to 149/8 in 20 overs from 72 for 5 in 11.5 overs.

After making a stellar contribution with a bat in hand, Harshal did wonders with the ball. He took two wickets for 23 runs in 3.3 overs as India restricted the hosts to 139. Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh took a wicket each while Venkatesh Iyer and Pranbhav Krishna took a wicket each.

Earlier, being asked to bat first, India opened the match losing Sanju Samson on the very first ball of the match, the successful bowler being captain Joshua Cobb. One-down bat Rahul Tripathi also didn’t last long but more trouble awaits for India as pacer Brandon Glover sent Suryakumar Yadav back in the third over to bowl out the visitors for 8/3.

It signaled the arrival of Dinesh Karthik and the seasoned campaigner went straight into the groove with some boundaries and a six. However, he was dismissed for 34 off 26 balls as India were reduced to 72 for five at the start of the 12th over.

Venkatesh Iyer scored 20 off 22 balls, but it was Harshal who did the bulk of the scoring when India needed runs to post a challenging total.
