Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee claimed that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma would lose his seat as the ruling NPP would not get a seat in Garo Hills.

Addressing an election rally in South Tura on Wednesday, he played down the Mukroh firing incident and said West Bengal also shares border with Assam, “but no one would dare to shoot five people there”. “As Mamata Banerjee There is a Chief Minister of the state.

The TMC leader also alleged that Sangma did not take necessary action to ensure justice for those killed in the incident, fearing that central agencies would act on one pretext or the other.

“I have clearly said that NPP will not leave even a single seat in Garo Hills, which has 24 seats. Konrad Sangma is losing from his own seat – South Tura. Six months back, the party had said that the Trinamool Congress has no base here. But now if you look at his speeches, tweets and statements, you will find that his day begins and ends with attacks on TMC. This shows how panicked they (NPP leaders) are.

He claimed that he did not see any street lights near the district collectorate, treasury office, DIG office and Tura police station.

He said, “If the chief minister cannot bring light to his constituency, how can he bring development to the state?”

He alleged that everything from hospitals to schools and colleges in the state is in ruins.

“Shillong Medical College exists only on paper. Tura Medical College is also in disrepair. There are 23 medical colleges in West Bengal, out of which 16 are run by the government. But there is not a single medical college here. TMC national general secretary Banerjee said, this is the result of the double engine government.

He said that there has not been an incident like Mukroh firing anywhere in the country.

“Three months have passed since the incident but no action has been taken against the officers who opened fire on innocent people. Is it not the responsibility of the Chief Minister to act when innocent people are being fired upon? The chief minister should have resigned for failing to act.”

Pointing out that West Bengal also shares its border with Assam, he said, “No one can dare to shoot five people in West Bengal because our chief minister’s name is Mamata Banerjee. They know that the chief minister here will do nothing, so they attack innocents.” The trouble on the border between the two states started when forest guards from Assam stopped a vehicle from Meghalaya carrying logs for illegal felling. 22 November. In the scuffle that followed, five tribal villagers from Meghalaya were shot dead by the Assam Police after an Assamese forest guard was killed.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the police firing in Mukroh was an act of self-defense and to protect government properties.

Banerjee alleged that Sangma did not act on the incident fearing action by central agencies. “The Chief Minister of Assam is from the BJP. If the CM of Meghalaya had sent a notice to the CM of Assam, Conrad Sangma would have received a notice from the ED. To save himself from ED-CBI, he is sacrificing his own people.

Why did Meghalaya bow before Delhi and Assam? I don’t think Meghalaya is part of the Northeast; Instead, it is a part of the former. As the sun rises in the east, India’s development will start from the east and from Meghalaya.”

Banerjee, the nephew of the West Bengal chief minister, said the accused in the Mukro shootings would be arrested if the TMC came to power in the state.

He also said that Mamata Banerjee will visit Meghalaya on February 22.
