Lakhimpur violence: Priyanka said, without order or FIR, under house arrest for the last 28 hours

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Why was the hand behind the killing of four farmers on Tuesday itself? Lakhimpur Kheri has not been arrested yet, while he is under “under house arrest for the last 28 hours” without any order or FIR. He was detained in Sitapur on Monday while on his way to Lakhimpur Kheri, where eight people died and several others were injured on Sunday. In the bloodiest clash since farmers’ protests against the Centre’s agricultural laws last year.

Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday shared a video on Twitter, which shows a group of protesting farmers being crushed by an SUV. “@narendramodi ji your government has detained me for last 28 hours without any order or FIR. Why has the one who crushed the farmers not been arrested yet?” She said in a tweet in Hindi.

Congress Vice President of Media and Communications Pankaj Srivastava said the party general secretary, who was detained at 4.30 am on Monday, has been under house arrest for the last 28 hours. “He is not being allowed to meet his lawyers and the administration is not explaining the reason for his detention,” he said.

Srivastava said that apart from Priyanka Gandhi, State Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu, National Secretary Dheeraj Gurjar, Youth Congress National President BV Srinivas, party MLC Deepak Singh are also under house arrest. There is anger among Congress workers over the illegal detention of party leaders, he said.

“The Prime Minister is coming to celebrate in Lucknow, while the farmers of Lakhimpur are waiting for justice,” he said. Maurya was included in an event in the area. Others were BJP workers and their drivers, who were allegedly pulled out of the vehicles and then thrashed to death by the protesters.

UP Police has registered a case against Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son but no arrest has been made so far.
