KCR demands MSP law, withdrawal of electricity bill

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has urged the Center to enact a law to ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP).

He said that it is important to have an MSP law to ensure remunerative prices to the farmers and to achieve ‘self-reliant agriculture’.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he demanded the Center to withdraw the Electricity Amendment Bill, which would be against the interest of the states and farmers.

“We have been providing 24 hours free electricity to farmers for the last seven years. If the bill is passed, the meter will be forced to be installed. This would be against the interest of the farmers.

“If you want, you can implement it in BJP-ruled states. Don’t impose it on those states which don’t want it,” he said.

Expressing solidarity with the farmers fighting against the three agricultural laws, he announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each to the kin of 700 farmers killed during the year-long struggle.

“Mere apology is not enough. The central government should give a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the kin of (farmers),” he said.
