‘It’s a blessing to have him’: Sunil Gavaskar praises India batsman, says ‘he reminds me of Hashim Amla’

Who can forget Cheteshwar Pujara’s valuable contribution in the last two tours of Australia? His determination and grit has let the bowlers down on several occasions. Also, the right-handed batsman has been a vital force for India when it comes to Test cricket. However, he has been under question for the past few months for his unsatisfactory output with the bat.

Pujara had a tough Test series against New Zealand at home and started the South Africa tour with a golden duck. Critics were behind him with all cannons until he scored a scintillating half-century in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test. Though India lost the game by 7 wickets, his century partnership with Ajinkya Rahane, who also hit a half-century, was commendable.

“Having players of this nature in your dressing room is a great, great blessing. (It may not happen) necessarily just on the field but that’s a huge plus and I think having someone with the nature of Cheteshwar Pujara in the changing room must be absolutely fantastic because in international cricket, there are moments of tension Where people would like to do this or that or the other. When you have someone who is calm to think about it and gives you a measured opinion, it makes a big difference,” Gavaskar said.

Pujara scored 53 runs in 86 balls and shared 113 runs for the third wicket with Rahane. He hit 10 fours during his tenure at the crease.
