Israel’s Weisman ranked 8th worldwide for scientific performance

of israel Weizmann Institute of Science It has maintained its reputation as one of the top research institutions worldwide, with recent rankings placing it at No. 8 globally for scientific performance.

The Rehovot-based institute was ranked in the annual proportional ranking published by the Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University in the Netherlands. This ranking, also known as the Leiden ranking, sees Weisman listed alongside Harvard, MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Princeton and other greats. Of all the institutions in the top 10, it is one of only two that is not located in the United States, the other being the cole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, coming in 9th.

The ranking is not subjective and is based on the number of publications and citations to indicate the quality of the research, as well as the size of the institution.

Overall, 19% weisman Papers were ranked in the top 10% for scientific impact, as were more than 20% of papers written by Weisman’s biomedical and health science researchers. A total of 2.5% of Weizmann’s papers were in the top percentile for scientific impact, and 65% were in the top half with the greatest impact of all.

The survey covered the period between 2016 and 2019. In that time, the Weisman paper earned 86,273 citations.

These rankings reflect an increase in the quality of the institute compared to a decade ago, when it was ranked 17th.

Weisman was also recognized by the European Commission’s initiative U-Multi-Rank 2021. This saw Weizmann ranked among the top 25 institutions worldwide in terms of patents awarded and top-cited publications.

These rankings and other achievements will be presented at the 73rd Annual General Meeting of the International Board of the Institute.
