Sharjah: Veteran Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik entered the Twenty20 World Cup semi-final against a formidable one on Sunday Australia Will give him “butterflies”.
Pakistan completed the ‘Super 12’ stage with five wins with a 72-run clinical win over qualifier Scotland in Sharjah.
Shoaib hit an unbeaten 54 off 18 balls – the fastest half-century of the tournament – as Pakistan posted 189-2 in 20 overs before reducing Scotland to 117-6.

This gave Pakistan a mouth-watering semi-final against Australia in Dubai – 2010 iteration t20 world cup Last-four which Australia won on the last ball in St Lucia.
“Of course we are seeing Australia play well Cricket And so are we, so it will be a tough match for both the teams,” said 39-year-old Shoaib after his man of the match innings that hit six sixes and a four.
“It will be a tough challenge for both teams and give us butterflies but it’s always encouraging.”

Shoaib, who has played in all seven editions of the T20 World Cup, will treat Thursday’s semi-final as “just one more game”.
“We will take the semi-finals as just another match and I think if we do that then we will be able to plan things better,” he said.
Australia finished runners-up in Group 1, winning four of their five matches, but losing to England in the top spot on net run-rate.

After not winning the Twenty20 World Cup yet, Australia are at the right time and opener David Warner is returning to form after scoring an unbeaten 89 against the West Indies on Saturday.
“We will have a good rest, we are a form team so we need to plan well for the semi-finals and this rest will definitely help in doing that,” Shoaib said.
“I am enjoying cricket and staying fit, always like to come out on the field and do my best for my country and today’s innings was like that, very enjoyable and it helped the team.”

Shoaib, who was not part of the starting squad and was included only after Shoaib Maqsood was ruled out with a back injury, said the injury was caused by the omission.
“I was playing the Caribbean Premier League when the starting team was announced and I was sad when I was not named but I had a way of venting my frustration while I was playing.
“Then I came back to Pakistan and did well in the national Twenty20 and luckily got selected, so I’m glad I’m here and enjoying my time.”
