IND vs BAN: ‘There Are Some Question Marks Over Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy’ – Former India Cricketer

the former India Cricketer Saba Karim on Sunday questioned Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the first ODI against Bangladesh. India suffered a 1-wicket defeat in a thrilling encounter as Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Mustafizur Rahman held their nerves and stitched an unbeaten match-winning partnership of 51 runs for the last wicket to get Bangladesh over the line.

India had a forgettable day with the bat as apart from KL Rahul, the other batsmen struggled to get going against the Bangladesh bowlers, who are at the top of their game in the series opener. Defending a target of 187, India bounced back as Deepak Chahar took his first ball wicket. While Mohammad Siraj took three wickets and put pressure on the batsmen of the host team. At one stage India were in complete control with nine wickets in hand but the Mehidy-Mustafizur duo snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

After India’s defeat, Karim criticized Rohit’s captaincy, calling it ignorant during a critical situation in the match.

He said, ‘If we analyze our bowling in the end, the right length was not bowled. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy also has some question marks. There should be some talk on this. According to me, his captaincy was a bit ignorant,” Karim told India News.

The former India wicketkeeper felt there was no rush when Bangladesh were nine wickets down and the last pair were taking singles and doubles quite easily.

“India looked very complacent after Bangladesh fell by nine wickets. They felt they had 50 runs to defend and the batsmen would not be able to get them. Nobody looked fazed as Bangladesh got another two runs easily. There was no rush and complacency ultimately hurt India.”

The former BCCI selector suggested that India lack pace in the death overs and handed the match to the hosts on a platter.

“We have often said that India needs speed at the time of death. Again, that was lacking and bothered us to some extent. I would say India played very poor cricket and handed Bangladesh a game they should have won. Very poor performance,” said Karim.
