Holi festival marks the victory of good over evil

According to Hinduism, Holika Dahan is considered to symbolize the victory of good over evil. Holika Dahan is the first ritual of the two-day Holi festival.

On this day people light a bonfire, which is said to destroy all evils. This time the auspicious time of Holi will be of 1 hour 10 minutes, which will start from 9.20 pm on March 17 and will last till 10.31 pm.

Puja Vidhi Of Holika Dahan

  • For the worship of Holika Dahan, it is very important to take a bath first. After bathing, sit at the place of worship of Holika facing north or east.
  • After this, idols made of Holika and Prahlad should be made from cow dung for worship.
  • In Holika Puja, things like roli (vermilion), incense, flowers, jaggery, turmeric, batase (sugar crisp), gulal (colour) and coconut are offered.
  • Also umbi, cow dung cakes and coconut are offered and they are worshipped.
  • Offer sweets and fruits too.
  • Also worship Lord Narasimha.
  • After this, do four and seven parikrama (parikrama) of Holika.
