Gandhian angry as Sidhu’s advisor despite Capt’s warning, gives BJP a chance before UP polls

The remarks made by Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu’s advisors Balwinder Singh Mali and Pyarelal Garg on Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan have now put the top leadership in Delhi in a bit of trouble.

The fact that advisors remain shameless and maintain that their comments were not anti-national, has given the BJP central leadership easy fodder against the Gandhi family. Sidhu was chosen by the Gandhi family and appointed as the state Congress chief. In an unprecedented move, several media advisors were appointed, but they put Sidhu, the Congress and the Gandhi family in jeopardy. Just ahead of the crucial Uttar Pradesh elections, where the Congress is struggling to make its presence felt, this is a controversy they could have done without.

Now, sources say that the top leadership is angry with Sidhu and his advisors’ remarks as it will only strengthen the BJP’s resolve to polarize UP and also fix the anti-national tag on the Gandhi family.

As expected, the BJP has blamed the Gandhi family for their silence. The Punjab Chief Minister is also worried that his silence may worsen the situation as Punjab is a border state. However, its implications are greater at a macro level and the matter will drag into the Gandhi family.

BJP has now demanded strict action against Sidhu and his two advisors. BJP’s Sambit Patra said at a press conference, “Since Sidhu was chosen by the Gandhi family, it shows that the advisors have their support.” The opposition Akali Dal and BJP are demanding action under the sedition law.

According to the sedition law in India, “Whoever, by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visual representation, or otherwise, attempts to bring about hatred or contempt, or incites or shall be punished with imprisonment for life for promoting dissatisfaction with the Government established by law in India.

In a Facebook post last week, Mali described Kashmir as “the country of the Kashmiri people”. Separately, she also posted a sketch of late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in which she is seen standing near a pile of human skulls with a gun in her hand. A skull is seen hanging from the muzzle of the gun.

Garg, on the other hand, courted controversy for questioning Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s persistent criticism of Pakistan.
