Legitimate loot, organized loot: Congress on the National Monetization Pipeline | India News – Times of India

New Delhi: Congress Tuesday described the government’s infrastructure monetization plan as “legitimate loot and organized loot”, alleging that priceless public assets created over decades are being handed over to a select few.
The Congress further alleged that the government was giving away crores of people’s hard earned wealth to its billionaire “friends”.
“First came the demonetisation disaster, which Dr Manmohan Singh described as ‘organised loot and legitimate loot’.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “Now comes the monetization fair – the priceless public property created over the decades is given to a select few. This is legitimate loot and organized loot.”
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged that the government was giving the “jumla of self-reliance” but made the country dependent on its “billionaire friends”.
In a tweet in Hindi, he said, “Giving the ‘jumla’ of ‘atmanirbhar’, he has made the entire government dependent on ‘billionaire friends’. All the work for those billionaire friends and all the wealth for them too.”
The Congress general secretary said, “This government is giving the wealth of millions of crores made by the people of the country in the last 70 years to its billionaire friends.”
Chief Spokesperson of Congress Randeep Surjewala alleged that under BJPThe property of the country will not be saved.
“Selling the country’s assets worth Rs 6 lakh crore – roads, rails, mines, telecommunications, electricity, gas, airports, ports, sports stadiums… Modi ji will sell everything from land to sky. If there is BJP, So the country’s wealth will not be saved,” he said in a tweet in Hindi, using the hashtag “#StopSellingIndia”.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) on Monday that includes unlocking value by involving private companies in infrastructure sectors – from passenger trains and railway stations to airports, roads and stadiums.
25 Airport Authority of India (AAI) including airports at Chennai, Bhopal, Varanasi and Vadodara as well as 40 railway stations, 15 railway stadiums and an unknown number of railway colonies have been identified for receiving private investment.
Stating that there is no transfer of ownership or land, he said, “NMP talks about brownfield infra assets where investment has already been made, where there is a complete asset which is either liquidating or Haven’t been fully monetized or what’s left is underutilized.”
