COVID Vaccination: 16-Year-Old Given Covishield Jab Instead Of Covaxin In Maharashtra’s Nashik

Nashik: A 16-year-old boy in Maharashtra’s Nashik district was mistakenly given a dose of the Kovidshield vaccine, officials said on Thursday.

Last month, the Union Health Ministry, while announcing the launch of vaccination for adolescents in this age group, had said that only children in the 15-18 years category would be given the Covaxin vaccine.

Local sources said that the boy, who hails from Patoda village in Yeola tehsil of the district, was given a Covid-shield dose at the local health center on Monday due to some confusion.

When his father came to know about the disturbance, he complained to the officials, following which Tehsil Health Officer Dr Harshal Nehte visited the Patoda health centre. Speaking to reporters, Dr Nehte admitted that it was a mistake, but added that the boy did not suffer any adverse effects and his condition was fine.

The official said he would be able to take another dose of the vaccine after two months.
