At an election rally in Nagaland, the Union Home Minister assured the people of early success of the Naga peace talks and resolving the issues of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO), which has been demanding a separate state.

Launching the election campaign in Nagaland, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance will retain power in Nagaland and it will solve all the problems of the state.

Addressing the local people in Mon Town, Shah said, “The NDPP-BJP alliance will form the government in Nagaland after the elections.” We will solve all the problems of the state. Our aim is to make the peace talks successful and to solve the political problems of the Nagas at the earliest.

The Union Home Minister also assured the people of expeditiously bringing the Naga peace talks to a successful end and resolving the issues of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO), which has been demanding a separate state.

“The issues raised by the ENPO were valid. We discussed and understood their problems and assured them that the new government to be formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio would solve them. Whatever is required, like additional budgetary allocation, more power to the council, equitable development, the NDPP-BJP government will work,” he said.

Shah criticized the Congress at the rally, saying the party would not be visible even through a telescope after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio welcomed the BJP’s decision to make his outfit NDPP a “major partner” in alliance with the saffron party over seat-sharing for the February 27 assembly elections.

In the presence of the Union Home Minister in Mon Town, Rio said, ‘You have given respect to the Nagas as a major partner. The BJP, however capable, humbly decided to contest 20 seats.”

The alliance is contesting the elections with a 40:20 seat-sharing formula.

CM Rio also expressed confidence that the alliance would win 45-50 out of 60 seats in the assembly.
