Center reprimanded the states: the government wrote a letter to all the states warning – there is a shortage in corona testing, it should be increased immediately

There has been a decrease in corona cases in India for the second consecutive day. On Monday, 2 lakh 38 thousand 18 new cases of corona have been found. This is 7.8% less than on Sunday. A major reason for this decline is the decrease in corona testing in the country. On Tuesday, the central government has also expressed concern regarding this.

Aarti Ahuja, Additional Secretary in the Union Health Ministry, has written a letter to all the states and union territories, advising them to increase the testing of corona. Ahuja says that by increasing the testing, the actual situation of the epidemic will be known and necessary action will be taken for the citizens immediately.

It has also been emphasized in the letter that the new variant of Corona, Omicron, which has caused havoc all over the world, has been declared as a Variant of Concern (VoC) by the World Health Organization (WHO). Therefore, the third wave of corona cannot be relaxed.

Testing is very important to prevent corona infection

Ahuja has written in the letter that it is very important to investigate those who are at high risk of corona. People at high risk include people suffering from serious diseases, the elderly, health workers, frontline workers, airport staff, people living in containment zones and hotspots.

It has been said in the letter that according to the guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), our aim is to quickly detect and isolate corona patients. After examining the patient, creating a containment zone, contact tracing and the process of quarantine are also necessary. This can prevent infection.

Referring to the Ministry’s earlier letters and the advice of the Ministry of Home Affairs to prepare an epidemic management strategy with reference to the Omicron variant dated 27 December 2021, Ahuja said that the testing of corona is a very important subject. Also, he said that ICMR data showed that there has been a decline in corona testing in many states and union territories.

What is the reason behind less testing?

The new guidelines of ICMR are also believed to be one of the reasons for the decrease in the investigation of corona. Actually, ICMR’s new guidelines on corona testing say that there is no need to get all the people who came in contact with the corona patient. Corona test should be done only by those people who came in contact with the infected, whose age is above 60 years or who have any serious disease.
