Bigg Boss Marathi 3: All you need to know about women’s rights activist Trupti Desai

The third season of Bigg Boss Marathi premiered on 19 September and Mahesh Manjrekar returned as the host. There are over a dozen contestants currently locked in the Bigg Boss house from various fields including acting, singing, social media and activism.

One of the popular participants is gender equality activist Trupti Desai. Trupti is the founder of Bhumata Brigade, a Pune-based organization that aims to fight against injustice and corruption against women. Tripti is known for pioneering campaigns for the entry of women into many religious institutions where they were banned.

However, the 35-year-old has been arrested four times in his career. He was arrested in 2007 when he led a campaign against NCP leader Ajit Pawar over alleged irregularities in the Ajit Co-operative Bank.

After starting the Bhumata Brigade in 2010, she started working for women’s rights. As of 2016, the organization had about 5000 members, including men. Her notable achievements are the campaigns that allowed women to enter the sanctum sanctorum of Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai and Shani Shingnapur temple in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. She also fought for the entry of women into the Sabarimala temple in Kerala.

During her campaign for Shani Shingnapur temple, Tripti was arrested in February 2016 in Ahmednagar while she was on her way to the temple. He was also allegedly attacked by the temple authorities. After months of protest, the temple management bowed down and allowed the entry of women inside the sanctum.

In March 2016, he was arrested again for trying to enter the Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik, which at that time did not welcome female devotees inside the sanctum sanctorum. The following month in April, the temple lifted the ban with the condition that women must wear wet cotton silk clothes to worship in the main area.

Trupti, along with six others, was also taken into preventive custody for attempting to stage a protest near the residence of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao over the gang rape and murder of a female veterinarian in December 2019.
