New German government expected to continue strong ties with India: German envoy | India News – Times of India

New Delhi: India is becoming an important country for Germany Indo-Pacific German Ambassador Walter J Lindner said on Monday that the next coalition government in the region and Berlin looked forward to continuing strong ties with New Delhi.
He said that relations between India and Germany have grown significantly in the last decade, including in the areas of trade and investment, and the ties are likely to continue to grow.
“None of the global issues can be resolved without India, be it climate change, global warming, trade issues, COVID-19 vaccination and terrorism. India is important to us,” he told reporters.
His remarks come as a new coalition government is expected to take the reins after parliamentary elections in Berlin.
According to reports, the Social Democrats (SPD) was ahead of Angela’s ruling conservative bloc Merkel in federal elections.
The federal elections marked the end of Merkel’s 16-year term as German Chancellor, a period that saw a significant expansion of Indo-German relations. Merkel has already announced that she will not seek a new term at the top of the country.
“The Indo-Pacific is becoming more and more important and India has emerged as a major player in the region,” the German envoy said.
Regarding Afghanistan, he said that the need for humanitarian aid in the country needs to be addressed.
Referring to the Taliban’s capture of Kabul, he said the world community had failed to accurately estimate the speed at which the group took over the country. PTI MPB
