Australia vice-captain Rachel Haynes ruled out of remainder of India series

Australia vice-captain Rachel Haynes has been ruled out of the remainder of the multi-format series against India due to a hamstring injury. Rachel suffered a right hamstring injury while fielding during the third ODI against India at Mackay on Sunday, forcing her to walk off the field.

“Unfortunately, his hamstrings are not good. She is devastated – obviously Test matches don’t come very often, she is a key member of our squad so our thoughts are with her at this point in time,” head coach Matthew Mott was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au Was.

In place of Rachel, Beth Mooney is expected to open with Alyssa Healy, who will take on the role of vice-captain. Beth had scored an unbeaten 125 in the opener as Rachel was ruled out of the second ODI due to an elbow injury. Beth, who complained of hamstring pain, is expected to be fit for the pink ball test at Metricon Stadium.

Rachael will be with the Australia team on the first day of the Test on Thursday. Rachel, 34, will then head back to Sydney with her partner and former Australian cricketer Leah Poulton, who is expecting her first child next month.

Mott expected leg-spinner Georgia Wareham to be available for the pink-ball Test against India. Like Rachel, Georgia suffered a quadriceps injury while fielding in the second ODI and was not in the third ODI.

“Georgia is ticking all the boxes for her return to play. She was very smart about it – she felt something very early, got treatment and is doing everything she can to fix it. Personally, I really hope she recovers after missing the last Test we played.”

“She’s a key member; no matter what the wicket, she’s a wicket-taker and that’s an incredibly good thing for this team – she moves up the field and her batting develops all the time.” So hopefully she gets the chance – she’s done everything in her powers to get ready.”

Australia lead the multi-format series against India 4-2. There are four points in the Test match starting on Thursday.
