5-year-old Music Maestro from Assam Wins Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar

What Dhritishman Chakraborty does is no child’s play; In fact, most adults will even find it challenging. A five-year-old girl from ONGC Colony in Assam’s Nazira town, who can sing in more than half a dozen languages, has now been awarded the Prime Minister’s National Award for Children (PMRBP) 2022.

A function was organized on Monday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Sivasagar district, where DC Megh Nidhi Dahal, Dhritishman’s parents Devjit and Sonam Chakraborty were also present. The child was rewarded through blockchain technology and the prize money was transferred to his bank account.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted virtually with the winners of PMRBP 2022 and presented them the certificates digitally. The event was virtually organized keeping in mind the COVID-19 crisis in the country. A total of 29 children, including 14 girls, were awarded in six areas – innovation, academic achievements, sports, art and culture, social service and bravery. Each winner received a medal, a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 and a certificate.

According to the India Book of Records, at the age of 3, Dhritishman became the “youngest multilingual singer”. Now, he can clearly sing in Assamese, Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Sanskrit, Sinhala etc. Likes to play drums and guitar.

Now, at the age of 5, he has recorded over 70 songs in 7-8 languages. Many of these went viral on social media platforms. Also, he has around 13,100 followers on Facebook and 4,200 on YouTube.

An Assamese song of his was also shared by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma. Other notable persons who have appreciated his talent include Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Tony Kakkar, Swanand Kirkire, Shantanu Moitra, Jeet Ganguly etc. He was also invited to perform in a special episode of a TV show with former Indian cricket great Sourav Ganguly.

Dhritishman won the awards at a live show held at Kolkata’s Rabindra Tirtha, his family says, and also emerged victorious in an online competition organized by the Shankar Mahadevan Academy.
