Kerala reports 3,698 new cases of COVID-19

After maintaining a consistent high number of infections over the past few months, Kerala on Monday recorded 3,698 new coronavirus cases, taking the number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 50,92,873. The death toll rose to 37,675 with 75 new deaths. The state had registered 5,080 cases on Sunday.

An official press release said that the number of people who have recovered from the infection since Sunday stood at 7,515, taking the total number of recoveries to 50,12,301 and active cases to 54,091.

The state health department said 45,190 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Among the 14 districts, Kozhikode reported the highest number of cases at 724, followed by Ernakulam (622) and Thiruvananthapuram (465).

Of the new cases, 13 were health workers, 15 from outside the state and 238 infected 3,432 with its source unclear.

At present, 1,88,979 people are under observation in various districts, of which 1,83,929 are in home or institutional quarantine and 5,050 in hospitals, the release said.
