Left-arm spinner Axar Patel jokingly said in a video chat with Harshal Patel that it looks like ‘Patel is winning everything’. The remarks came after Harshal said that the player of the match award is shared between them.
After Harshal won the player of the match award on debut for figures of 2/25 in the second T20I in Ranchi, it was Akshar’s turn to claim the prize for his spell of 3/9. Harshal, on the other hand, took the ‘gamechanger’ award for his spell of 2/26 at the Eden Gardens and played a handy 11-ball 18.
“I don’t know, we haven’t decided it, but it looks like man of the match Patel will be between us!” Harshal was mocked in a video uploaded by the BCCI on Monday. Akshar replied with a laugh, “It seems Patel is winning everything.”
Commenting on his spell, which broke the back of New Zealand’s chase, Axar said, “It feels great to start my over with a wicket. It gives you a whole different level of confidence. The ball was stopping and spinning. So, I was having a lot of fun. That’s why I believe I got three wickets in the power-play.”
When asked about his first series, Harshal said, “It was an extraordinary feeling. I mean, I didn’t expect the debut match to go so well because all my debuts have never been so good before today. But I executed my skills well and the result was also in our favor and we won the match.”
Harshal quipped that the change in the outcome of his call-up in the Indian team was mainly due to a change in mindset. “The change for me has mainly been in the mindset. I had all these skills before. The change in mindset in the last two years has resulted in me now. Whatever I did in IPL, I decided to carry forward that mindset in this series. Those things are working for me and I am very happy with it.”
