Kanpur: It is said that UP has immense talent in cricket. And that was proved in the recent IPL players auction when as many as 12 UP players were sold after a bid.
Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow SuperGiantsGujarat Titans, Sun Risers HyderabadDelhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders showed interest in the UP players and placed them in their teams.
Lucknow SuperGiants and Sun Risers Hyderabad both purchased three UP players each, Kolkata Knight Riders bid for two players and the remaining teams grabbed one each. Five UP players joined the crore club. Coincidentally, all are bowlers. Four out of them are medium pacers while one is a spinner.
Shivam Mavi, the right hand medium-pacer of Noida, was bided highest– Rs 7.25– crore by his former team Kolkata Knight Riders. The next was the Indian test player Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, who was sold for Rs 4.2 crores. Sun Risers Hyderabad expressed its faith in this swing bowler. Kartik Tyagi, another medium pacer was the third who had joined the crore club. He was also purchased by the Sun Risers Hyderabad.
Another medium pacer Yash Dayal of Prayagraj was purchased by Gujarat Titans for Rs 3 crore. UP Ranji trophy captain Kuldeep Yadav is the fifth player, who was purchased by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore. Another medium pacer Ankit Rajput was caught by Lucknow SuperGiants. The buyer assessed his value as Rs 50 lakh. Among the batsmen, Rinku Singh proved the costliest. Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him for Rs 55 lakh. Aryan Juyal (Mumbai Indians), Dhruv Chand Juyal (Rajasthan Royals), Priyam Garg (Sun Risers Hyderabad) and Karan Sharma (Lucknow SuperGiants) were sold for Rs 20 lakh each.
Director, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association Prem Manohar Gupta said UP players have talent and they need to be identified and get exposure.
