Fresh Covid-19 Cases Fall Below 100-mark In City | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: The number of fresh Covid cases reported from the city has come down to the levels prevailing before the third wave, a health department official said on Monday.
The third wave peaked on January 22, when 1,755 fresh cases were reported on a single day. Since then, there has been a steep decline.
“The number of fresh cases reported in a day came down to less than the 100-mark on Friday as only 70 cases were reported. Since then, the number of fresh cases reported on a daily basis has been between 40 and 70. On Monday, the city reported only 39 cases. While the positivity rate, which climbed to 30%, has now fallen to less than 1.5%. Total active cases as on Monday was only 629,” the official said.
However, the city corporation has not brought down the number of tests. Around 4,000 tests are being conducted every day.
Coimbatore district reported 305 fresh cases and three deaths on Monday. While 937 people were discharged on the day, 5,303 are under treatment. The pandemic had infected 3,27,700, causing 2,607 deaths so far. Positivity rate of the district has come down to 5.7%. However, it was the highest in the state as on Monday.
Covid-19 appropriate measures will continue in the district, the official said. “We will enforce mask compliance and check unnecessary crowding in public places.”
