Ganguly praised Suryakumar Yadav and called him the best in the business, but said he is no longer young.

East India Captain Sourav Ganguly named the players who are going to rule the Indian Premier League in the years to come. The legendary Indian batsman, who was part of the IPL in the tournament’s formative years, closely watched the development of Indian cricketers as the President of the BCCI. Ganguly is also expected to join DC as director of cricket after stepping down as BCCI president last year.

During an interaction, the veteran cricketer was asked to name the players who have the potential to make it big in the IPL in the years to come. Ganguly heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav and described him as the best in the business but said he is not young. While he picked Delhi Capitals batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant as his top two picks.

Unique: Great opportunity for everyone in the squad to learn work ethic from Mooney and Gardner, says Gujarat Giants’ Sushma Verma

“The best in the business is Suryakumar Yadav. Obviously, you don’t consider him young anymore, but it can be said that among the young players, Prithvi Shaw has got a lot of talent in the T20 format and I think Rishabh Pant. He is only 23 (25). The world is at his feet; Rishabh Pant is number 2. I will keep an eye on Ruturaj Gaikwad to see how he plays. I think these are the three batsmen,” he said on Star Sports.

Among the bowlers, Ganguly picked Umran Malik and said that he would become a fans’ favorite if he managed to stay fit.

“Umran Malik is someone who will probably keep the fans interested in the game because of his genuine pace, if he stays fit.”

Meanwhile, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh was also a part of the conversation as he reminded Ganguly of another talented batsman – Shubman Gill and the former KKR skipper immediately added him to his list.

“Yeah absolutely, that’s the name that crossed my mind. But I think my fifth player would be Shubman Gill. So, it’s Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Surya probably leading the list, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Umran Malik and Shubman Gill,” he concluded with a smile.
