Alyssa scored an unbeaten 96 off 47 balls, including 18 fours and a six, which was also the highest score by any batsman in the competition.

Former Indian cricketer Reema Malhotra on Friday praised UP Warriors captain Alyssa Healy for helping them beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 10 wickets in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Alyssa scored an unbeaten 96 off 47 balls, including 18 fours and a six, which was also the highest score by any batsman in the competition. His opening partner Devika Vaidya contributed a 31-ball 36, including five fours, as Warriors chased down the target of 139 in just 13 overs, handing Bangalore their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

“Her first two matches were disappointing but today we saw a noticeable improvement. Instead of Shweta (Sehrawat), she came out to bat with Devika Vaidya and made her life easier.

“She played freely and her shot selection was excellent. She plays with power but when to use that power, Healy showed you today. He also showed us how to play a captain’s innings and earn a strong win,” Sports18 and Geo Cinema’s WPL expert Reema said after the match was over.

Alyssa, Australia’s talismanic wicketkeeper-batsman, was all praise for the Warriors bowling attack, where Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone combined for seven wickets to bowl Bangalore out for 138 in 19.3 overs.

“I was really happy with our bowlers tonight. At the start of the match, we thought we will keep them under 200 as that seems to be getting every team here. Full credit goes to the spinners.”

“I thought they were excellent and they kept their composure and took wickets at crucial times. To keep a batting unit like that below 140 was a serious effort and it gave us the confidence to go out there and have some fun.”
