Surat: A 26-year-old woman Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) jawan suspectedly committed suicide by jumping into the sea at Tithal beach in Valsad on Sunday night. The body of Pooja Prajapati was found in the beach early on Monday. Police suspect that Prajapati might have taken the extreme step as her family was against the her choice of the man she wanted to marry.
On Sunday night, Prajapati went to Tithal after duty. When she did not return home, her family contacted her colleagues who told them that she had left at around 8pm. The LRD jawan was posted at Valsad City police station and she had been working with the police for the past two years.
After the family members alerted officers on duty at the police station around 10pm, a search operation was initiated by police. Her colleagues tried to contact her over the phone but it was switched off. They found through CCTV footage examination that she had gone towards Tithal.
Police teams then searched around Tithal and found her moped near the beach. In the presence of her family members, police searched for her in the beach. They found her body in the early hours after the high tide waters receded.
Family members told police that Prajapati had developed a relationship with a relative. She wanted to marry that man but the family was against it. There were no issues related to caste or status but the family was against the love marriage. They wanted Prajapati to marry a man from Navsari and they were to meet the man’s family in a few days.
