As the second phase of voting for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 began across the nation, a soon-to-be-married groom from Maharashtra’s Amravati made headlines for a unique reason. On his wedding day, the groom and his family were spotted at the polling station, where they gave votes to their favourite party. The groom accompanied by his uncle and mother, was spotted wearing a traditional sherwani and turban. The trio arrived early in the morning to fulfil their duty as a citizen before proceeding to the wedding venue. The video captured the attention of social media users after ANI shared the video on X, which quickly went viral and garnered over 45,000 views.
In the video, the groom can be heard saying, “Marriage can wait, but voting is urgent.” When asked about the wedding muhurat, the groom replied, that it is scheduled for 2 PM in the afternoon. As the video progresses, the groom mentions that the bride is from a different district. Sharing the video, the news portal wrote, “A groom arrives at his designated polling station in the Vadarpura area of Amravati to cast his vote in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. 8 parliamentary constituencies are voting in the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in the state.”

Another joked that the groom appeared to be from election commission official who arrived early in the morning to create a positive atmosphere.

The second phase of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha elections saw 88 constituencies across 13 states and union territories participating in the process. Among these, Kerala had all 20 seats, Karnataka contributed 14 out of 28 seats, Rajasthan included 13 seats, while Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh each contributed eight seats. Madhya Pradesh had seven seats, while Assam and Bihar each had five. Additionally, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal had three seats each, while Manipur, Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir each had one seat.
The voting started at 7 AM and is scheduled to continue till 5 PM. However, in specific areas like Banka, Madhepura, Khagaria and Munger in Bihar, polling hours have been extended until 6 PM due to hot weather conditions. Meanwhile, the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha election is scheduled for June 4 and the results are expected to be declared on the same day.
