Hubballi: Chairing a meeting to review the status of the project aimed at supplying drinking water round-the-clock to residents of all 82 wards under the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation’s (HDMC) jurisdiction in the night on Sunday, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai instructed all the authorities to expedite work on the mission. The CM, who was in Hubballi on Sunday, instructed officials of L&T, which has bagged the contract to oversee distribution of water in the twin cities, must keep the elected representatives informed, and seek their suggestions on ensuring seamless supply of water.
“L&T must share keep the Dharwad deputy commissioner abreast of all the developments, including the status of the project to supply water 24×7, every month. There cannot be any compromise in the quality of work. The private company must convene meetings with officials, and deliberate on the best possible way to execute the project. The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation, and L&T, must jointly submit a reply to the court,” Bommai said.
Pointing out that there was more to the project than the laying of pipelines, and building necessary infrastructure, the CM emphasised the need for the private company to be prepared to tackle several challenges along the way. L&T could be assured of the fullest cooperation from the district administration, Bommai said.
Union minister for parliamentary affairs, and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi said that the project was an ambitious one, and warned against negligence creeping into the execution of the same. He expressed concern about complaints from residents, about water being supplied only for six to eight hours a day.
