Redditor Pleasant_Tear3205 shared his home’s backstory in a viral post. The 34-year-old explained that nine years ago, he was offered a house with a price he couldn’t refuse.
“I was fortunate enough to leave college debt-free and pursue a very lucrative degree, and I wanted nothing more than to live on a few acres of land in a quiet house with my dogs,” he explained.
He spent months looking at different real estate agents in several cities near his workplace. Finally, an agent asked him if he would mind if the house had a little backstory. He said it depends.
The agent said that there had been a murder-suicide in the house a few years ago. The tragic story may have put some people off, but it didn’t bother the Redditor.
“I didn’t think much of it and agreed to view the house. Three minutes after I arrived, I knew it was perfect for me,” he recalls in the Reddit post.
It has four bedrooms and two bathrooms and sits on three acres. The asking price was $481,000 (Rs 4 crore). The house, he explained, had been heavily discounted because of its troubled past. The agent felt it would cost at least $100,000 (Rs 83 lakh) more if there hadn’t been a known crime in it.
He made an offer of $445,000 (Rs 3.7 crore), and miraculously the owner agreed. Since then, he only thought about what happened in the house a few times. Five years later, he met the “love of his life,” Jennifer, who quickly fell in love with his house after seeing it.
“We got married last year. The other day, Jennifer was at the grocery store and got chatting to an older woman,” he says.
The woman asked where she lived and Jennifer described the location. The older woman said to her, ‘Oh, the old Johnson house? Terrible what happened there’ and the old woman explained everything to Jennifer.
His wife rushed home in a panic to tell him the news but was shocked to learn that he already knew. Jennifer said she couldn’t live in a place where something so terrible had happened. The man told her she’d been doing that for a year and a half and there’s nothing to worry her husband.
After hearing this, Jennifer dramatically fled the house with a suitcase to stay with her parents. She keeps calling her husband, arguing about selling the house, and then hanging up. People commented that the incident shouldn’t be a reason for them to split up.
