Jyoti, wife of Deepak Nainwal, who was martyred by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, became an army officer on Saturday. Both his children also accompanied him in the passing out parade (POP). After the martyrdom of her husband about 3 years ago, Jyoti had decided to serve the country.

Jyoti said after the POP at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai that she wanted to thank her husband’s regiment. The regiment treated her like a daughter and supported her every step of the way. She said that she would live her life in a way that would be like a gift to her children. On Saturday, 178 cadets passed out from the Officers Training Academy. These include 124 men, 29 women, and 25 foreign soldiers, including 7 Afghans.

Naik Deepak Nainwal, a resident of Harrawala, Dehradun, was injured in an encounter with terrorists in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 10 April 2018. 3 bullets were fired. He was martyred on 20 May 2018 after fighting a battle for life and death for a month. His wife Jyoti also decided to serve the country like Deepak.

Jyoti has 2 children. Daughter Lavanya studies in class 4, while son Reyansh is a student of class 1. Both the children are proud of their mother becoming an army officer. He also wants to serve the country by becoming a soldier like his father.
