‘Why not bowl ‘n outswing: Siraj explains how he planned to reject Ross Taylor’s ‘Dream’

India pacer Mohammad Siraj termed Ross Taylor a “dream” for any bowler because of his perfect execution.

Siraj was instrumental in his dismissal for 62 in his first innings in New Zealand as he quickly picked up three top-order wickets in his opening spell on the second day of the second Test.

When asked about the delivery to Taylor, Siraj said, “The plan was that we had prepared the ground for an inswing delivery and the aim was to hit the pads, but the way I was building my rhythm, I Thought why not bowl the outswing. It was a dream delivery for any fast bowler.”

Siraj had spread his net during the first T20 International against New Zealand in Jaipur and has since been ruled out. Senior pacer Ishant Sharma was overlooked when he got a chance in the opening Test at Kanpur.

“When I resumed training after an injury, I bowled single wickets to try to get as much swing as possible. That was my focus.

The Hyderabad pacer, who bowled a bouncer of over 147 kmph to dismiss Tom Latham, said, “Whenever I get a chance in a Test match, I have to hit one area consistently and that’s what helps me build my momentum.” helps.”

His basic effort has always been to allow the batsmen to play as many deliveries as possible and that is why he bowls from the stump line and not outside the off-stump.

“I wanted to pitch it on the stumps and hit an area consistently as it creates problems for the batsmen. If you start bowling outside the off-stump, the batsmen start dropping the ball.”

He knew the spinners would bowl long spells on this track and decided that whatever the length of his spell, he would bow down completely, as he did during those four overs.

“I knew I would get 3-4 overs of spell and wanted to bowl with full intensity,” he concluded.
