A former England international has revealed that he would take up the Head Coaching role for the Senior Men’s team if the BCCI gave him the opportunity.

With rumours continuing to float about regarding who would be the next Head Coach for the Indian Cricket Team, a former England international revealed his pleasure in taking up the role if given the opportunity by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Some of the names that have been reported to be contenders for the job include the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Stephen Fleming and Mahela Jayawardene among others.

Speaking at an event in Delhi was none other than the former England off-spinner Graeme Swann who revealed that he would take up the job without thinking for a moment if the Indian Cricket Board had offered him the role.

“If India asked me to become their coach, I’d do it in a heartbeat! I love this place,” Swann told Sports Tak.

Swann also suggested that Andy Flower would have been a great selection for the role having led England to being the number one side and having a great track record in the Indian Premier League coaching the likes of Lucknow Super Giants and currently the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the playoffs. He also has a big reputation having coached other sides in the T20 leagues across the globe.

Swann delivered massive praise for the former England coach and suggested that he was the best coach he had worked with and the Indian team would be lucky to have the services of the former Zimbabwe international.

Flower was part of the England setup when they won the 2009  and 2013 Ashes, the 2010 T20 World Cup, and took England to number one in the rankings for 2011.

“Andy was an incredible coach for England when I played. He took us to No. 1 in the world and was the best coach I’ve played under. India would be lucky to have him,” Swann said.

The former England spinner believes that regardless of who gets the job, they will be dealing with some of the most talented bunch of players and hopes that they bring success to the country.

“India… you’ve got such a strong squad, such highly talented players, that whoever gets the job… it will be the biggest coaching job in world cricket these days. Whoever gets it, hope they bring success because they are really under the microscope,” he concluded.
