He was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police from a five-star hotel in Srinagar for posing as an ‘Additional Secretary’ at the Center and enjoying security cover, among other hospitality.
According to court documents, Patel was on his third visit to the Kashmir Valley and was later apprehended by alert security officers on March 3. The news about the thug came to light when he was produced before the magistrate.
He was produced before a court here last evening for extension of his police remand. A case was registered against him on March 2 under relevant sections of cheating and forgery and he was arrested the next day.
During his earlier visit, he had visited the tourist destination Gulmarg claiming that the government had tasked him to improve hotel facilities in the area.

When he landed at the airport on March 2, the security agencies got suspicious as there was no information about any VIP movement. An attempt was made to stop him at the airport but it did not succeed as he had already boarded a bullet proof car on his way to the hotel.
The documents state that after his interrogation and subsequent arrest, security officials recovered forged identity cards from his possession.
