West Bengal by-elections: Polling in four constituencies ends peacefully. Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: Apart from sporadic incidents, polling in four assembly constituencies West Bengal passed away peacefully.
In comparatively low turnout, Shantipur in Nadia recorded the highest 76.1 per cent and Khardha recorded the lowest 63.9 per cent.
Controversy erupted towards the end of polling when BJP candidate Joy Saha in Khardah caught a man alleging that he was trying to cast a false vote.
The incident at Khardah’s Bandipur immediately created tension as Trinamool Congress supporters started raising slogans and this prompted the central forces to lathi-charge, resulting in injuries to Aryadeep Sinha, son of late MLA Kajal Sinha.
Trinamool Congress candidate Sovondeb Chattopadhyay said, “There was nothing like that. The BJP candidate was trying to create unrest and lathi-charged central forces and personal security of the BJP candidate. Our supporters were injured in the process.”
BJP candidate Joy Saha has denied the allegation. However, the Election Commission has sought a report from the District Magistrate.
Chattopadhyay has been accusing the central forces of excesses since morning. “Agents are told that if they wear badges they will not be allowed inside booths. This is my eighth election and I know the rules better than the forces. If the badge is in my name with the party emblem, then They cannot be stopped,” Chattopadhyay had said.
“Voters are also told that they won’t be allowed inside booths if they don’t have the double vaccine. It’s strange. How can they set such conditions? Their only job is to see if Whether there is any problem outside. Booth. Technical specifications will be handled by the presiding officer. I have filed a complaint with the Election Commission,” Chattopadhyay said.
However, 69.9 per cent polling was recorded in Dinhata in Cooch Behar and 75.9 per cent in Gosaba in South 24 Parganas district.
BJP candidate from Shantipur Niranjan Biswas alleged that voters were not being allowed to come out of their homes to exercise their franchise. “Some of our supporters are being threatened so that they do not go to the polling booth. Trinamool Congress goons are forcing them to stay indoors. I have lodged a complaint with the Election Commission,” Biswas said.
Election Commission officials, however, said they looked into the issues but found nothing concrete. “At present, polling is going on peacefully in the constituency,” the official said.
The Election Commission had made elaborate arrangements for the bypolls and deployed 92 units of central police forces, out of which 8 companies would be kept for the counting day on November 2.
