WATCH: Fans play cricket outside Edgbaston as rain was disrupted on day one

Fifth Test rescheduled between India And England started at Edgbaston on Friday. On the first day of the match, England asked India to bat first on the green pitch. The visitors were 53/2 when rain interrupted play and lunch was taken early.

As the high-octane action was briefly halted due to light rain, the spectators found a way to entertain themselves as some fans started playing cricket outside Edgbaston Stadium.

Sony Play The network shared an amazing video on its official Twitter handle in which an Indian man is seen bowling to a kid who is batting with an umbrella. The bowler completely copied the bowling action of Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and got the young kid out. He celebrated his skullcap by mimicking the iconic celebration of Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan.

The caption was as good as it read, “Birmingham or India, playing cricket in rain (playing cricket in rain) feels like a different hit”. The official broadcasters also tagged Harbhajan and asked him to rate the bowling action out of ten.

Before the rain turned bad, India had lost both their openers Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara. Gill started off with confidence and played some brilliant shots and was dismissed for just 17 runs at the hands of England pacer James Anderson. Pujara’s gamble of playing as an opener backfired as he managed just 13 runs and became Anderson’s second victim.

The much awaited return of the star batsman Virat Kohli Didn’t live up to the expectations of the Indian fans. The former captain returned to the pavilion with 11 runs after pulling a wide delivery from pacer Matthew Potts over the stumps. India subsequently lost Hanuma Vihari, and Shreyas Iyer in close succession and were reduced to 98/5.

The situation looked humbling for the visitors as batsmen Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja tried to steady the ship. As soon as both the players reached their crease, they launched an aggressive counterattack on the England bowlers. Pant played a blistering innings of 146 runs and broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s 16-year-old record for the fastest century by an Indian wicketkeeper. Jadeja celebrated fencing after scoring a century in the match.

The flamboyant partnership of the two stylish Indian batsmen has put India in a very strong position in the Test match.
