Virat Kohli jumps Mohammad Azharuddin to achieve big record during Centurion opener

New Delhi: The first Test of the three-Test series between India and South Africa is currently being played at Centurion. Team India’s Test team captain Virat Kohli achieved another milestone on Sunday by overtaking former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin.

Virat has now won the most toss for India in Test cricket as a captain. He won the 30th toss in his 68th Test as captain.

Virat had won 29 tosses before the India vs South Africa Boxing Day Test. Out of these, India won 23 test matches. Mohammad Azharuddin had won 29 tosses while captaining Team India in 47 Tests. Now he has slipped to the second position in this list.

Two-time World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni is at number three in this list. The CSK skipper has won 26 tosses while captaining India in 60 Tests.

After inviting the hosts to bowl first, skipper Kohli said, “We will bat first. Our strength has been to score runs on the board while playing away from home. Here the pitch gets fast for 2-3 days.”

“Our success away from home started with the series we played here last time. Very challenging place to play. The South African unit is always strong and they know the situation. The preparation has been excellent. Lucky enough to get the centre-wicket for practice,” said Kohli.

India has selected five batsmen for India vs South Africa 1st Test. Ajinkya Rahane has been included in the playing XI, preferring Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari.

Ishant Sharma has also been included in the playing XI in place of Mohammad Siraj. Team India has selected 4 fast bowlers for the opening test and Ashwin is playing as the only spin option.
