This is the story of a student’s tenacity and triumph over all obstacles.

A person can achieve anything with courage and determination. A man named Hemant from Rajasthan is one such example. He passed the UPSC exam with flying colours. UPSC is regarded as the toughest exam in the nation. This is the story of his tenacity and triumph over all obstacles. Without any kind of coaching assistance, Hemant scored 884th rank in the 2023 UPSC exam. Hemant hails from a modest upbringing. His mother is a daily wage labourer under the MNREGA project, while his father is a local priest. After witnessing his mother argue with an MNREGA officer about her salary, Hemant learned the meaning of the word “collector” and at that moment he decided to become a district magistrate. His search for information regarding the UPSC Civil Services Exam prompted him to become a collector.

Hemant is from the village of Biren in the Hanumangarh area. When he was a college student, he began his journey for UPSC preparation. Hemant passed the preliminary exam on his first attempt, but he was not allowed to take the main exam because of his lack of passing marks. With unwavering perseverance, Hemant passed the UPSC 2023 exam on his second try, ranking 884th.

It was difficult for him to prepare for the UPSC after that. He had to deal with a lot of setbacks in the past. He was unable to finish the Diploma in Elementary Education as he failed the English subject. With some encouragement from his friends, he graduated from SKN Agricultural University in Jobner.

In a recent interview about his success story with a media portal, Hemant said his father was ecstatic and couldn’t believe the news, while his mother was crying with delight when they heard his result. “I always saw my mother’s tears of sorrow but for the first time there were tears of joy in her eyes,” he stated. When asked about his exam preparation and the significance of coaching, he stated: “As for me, I could not afford to pay for any coaching, I watched YouTube videos to study difficult subjects and leaned on the advice of mentors I met at the university.”
