According to a report, the sports market in India is worth over Rs 9,500 crore. While all sports are doing well in the country, cricket, the traditional powerhouse continues to rule and has only strengthened after the pandemic. It accounts for 88 percent of the overall sports market in India. Before the pandemic the share of cricket was 80 per cent.
At Rs 8,400 crore, cricket has grown 15 per cent in 2019 or pre-pandemic levels while other sports have declined by 38 per cent. The pandemic, however, has hit other sports hard.
